This event is free but booking is required. This talk will conclude with larger questions about Yogi Bhajan, his Kundalini Yoga, the organizations he created, and the nature of tradition-making and historical revision within modern yoga lineages. He will describe the archival and interview-based research that formed the basis of the article, unpublished findings and subsequent discoveries made over the last seven years that have added to its argument, and the effect that the article has had on understandings of Yogi Bhajan’s Kundalini Yoga. In this talk, Philip Deslippe will build upon his article “From Maharaj to Mahan Tantric” published in the academic journal Sikh Formations in 2012, that gave a detailed and evidence-based account of the origins of Yogi Bhajan’s Kundalini Yoga for the first time and has been downloaded over 23,000 times.

YOGI BHAJAN WIKI FULL
Kundalini Yoga aligns the body, mind and spirit through yogic postures, conscious breath, deep meditation and chanting, giving the practitioner access to their full potential. Kundalini appeals to students from every walk of life because of its accessibility a practitioner of Kundalini can fully engage worldly responsibilities while still achieving enlightenment. It’s our deep belief that Kundalini Yoga-the ‘Yoga of Awareness’-is an access point to this spiritual standing up this access to a sense of joy, ease, peace, calm and completion. When we stand up for our higher Self and the wellbeing of all living beings, we are destined to experience cellular happiness and fulfillment. Which, once aligned, connect us to a sense of Self with a strength never experienced before. Standing up spiritually is a process of discovery and purification of alignment of our physical, emotional and mental bodies. Primates physically stood up to secure basic needs: food and shelter. A spiritual standing up mimics how primates evolved into what we now call humans, a short four million years ago. We aim to create the bridge between the lessons inherent in human evolution and one’s spiritual unfolding-their spiritual standing up-through these ancient philosophies.
